Almost 400 injured Veterans and active-duty military members recently participated in the 31st National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, hosted by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and Disabled American Veterans, and made possible by the financial support of companies like Business Information Technology Services (BITS), A Cognosante Company, which was a Gold Sponsor of the event.
Held near Aspen, Colorado, the annual winter clinic is popularly known as “Miracles on a Mountainside,” as it helps disabled Veterans’ mental and physical rehabilitation through events like Alpine and Nordic skiing, rock climbing, and other adaptive sports and activities. Adaptive sports have been credited with improving participants’ well-being by reducing stress, lessening dependency on pain and anti-depression medications, and improving educational and employment outcomes.
Acquired by Cognosante in October 2016, BITS provides IT services and solutions to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the Department of Defense.
“It was inspiring and obvious to observe how the lives of Veterans were changed over a week,” said Kathy Coupland, a BITS employee who volunteered at the event. “Throughout the week as I engaged with the Veterans, I listened to amazing stories that seeded my soul with inspiration that will not be forgotten.”
Game-changing. Relentless. Passionate. Cognosante produces powerful results for our customers and the communities they serve.
