Cognosante contracted with a U.S. government department which has a goal of providing eligible Veterans with the care they need at the right time, at the right place, from the right provider, which in some cases is a local community care provider. To meet this goal, they offer referrals to community providers and decrease the administrative burden on their clinical and Community Care (CC) staff.
The contractor’s current referral and authorization process is largely manual. It is burdensome for their government and CC staff, and stressful for Veterans waiting to receive needed care.
Our Innovative Solution
Our team implemented a Community Care Referral & Authorization solution, using InterSystems technology to seamlessly integrate a bi-directional data exchange between community providers, VistA EHR, and many other government systems. The secure, cloud-based solution—running on Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud—automatically generates referrals and authorizations for all Veterans receiving care in the community, and it allows providers to add clinical information back to the Veteran’s EHR in VistA.
This solution will be an integral component of the CC Information Technology architecture, allowing Veterans to receive care from community providers in a timely manner.
