Senior Vice President, State

Karen Gage leads Cognosante’s State business unit, working to develop and support contact center solutions that promote health program enrollment and consumer engagement programs in state health agencies – contributing to the success of state health and human services programs across the country.

Karen brings more than 35 years of experience delivering business and operational solutions to clients. She has a proven ability to effectively manage projects from conception to conclusion and maintains a passion for what she does. As a Cognosante Program Director and Senior Consultant for the past five years, she oversaw multiple state Medicaid, Women Infants and Children (WIC), and Eligibility projects in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New York, and provided subject matter expertise in relevant business areas. She served as the Executive Sponsor of the State Health IV&V Advantage practice and leads the Cognosante CMS Certification Excellence team.

Prior to joining Cognosante, Karen supported Hewlett Packard (HP)/EDS’ Pennsylvania Medicaid account for 20 years in various leadership positions, including Account Executive where she was responsible for all aspects of the 200+ person fiscal agent contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Her expertise encompasses project management, Medicaid provider relations, MMIS implementations and CMS certification, claims processing, eligibility verification systems, pharmacy online systems, prospective drug utilization review, and customer support.

Karen led the HP team that received the National Governors Association 2012 Public Partnership Award for the 13-state collaborative Medical Assistance Provider Incentive Repository (MAPIR) project. This partnership with the states was recognized for promoting government savings and efficiencies, sharing knowledge and best practices from other programs throughout the country, and working to effectively promote the use of certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology.

Karen earned a Bachelor of Journalism and Public Relations from Bowling Green State University.
