Ronald McDonald House Charities Volunteer Event

On June 26, 2018, Cognosante’s summer analysts volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House of Northern Virginia to cook a meal and pack grab-n’-go lunches for families at the house. As part of Cognosante’s 10-week Summer Analyst Program, interns will be partaking in several volunteer initiatives, with Ronald McDonald House Charities being the first.

Upon arrival, analysts broke off into two groups. The first group prepared a full, family-style meal in the kitchen which included pasta and meatballs, Caesar salad, garlic bread, and Rice Krispie treats. The second group formed an assembly line in the conference room to pack brown-bag lunches consisting of macaroni and cheese cups, granola bars, meat sticks, cookies, cheese crackers, and juice boxes.

Ronald McDonald House was formed in 1974 to provide families of sick children undergoing treatment with a place to stay near the care they need, at little to no cost. Many of the Ronald McDonald House locations are within walking distance of the hospital allowing families to stay near their children being treated. Each family is assigned a private bedroom and bathroom, with access to a community kitchen, laundry room, family room, and play areas.

Cognosante is appreciative of the opportunity to spend a day at the Ronald McDonald House of Northern Virginia volunteering and interacting with the children staying there. It was a humbling experience, and we’re proud of our volunteers. Our summer analysts fed 20 to 30 people with the meal they prepared and packed approximately 80 bagged lunches.
